Tet Show 2021: A Night We Remember
March 16-20, 2021
This year's Tet Show skit is "A Night to Remember." The story centers on Andrew, whose father, a refugee, vowed to return to Vietnam and reunite with his lost love but he died before he could. Andrew travels to Vietnam to find the woman his father never stopped loving. A comedy of errors ensues at the night market that mirrors events long ago and brings his family story full circle. Our goal was to present a story in which we showcase a Vietnamese-American perspective in a Vietnamese setting. We wanted to make the story about a person traveling to their home country and finding a sense of love and admiration for their cultural background. We know that in the United States, there are times where Asian-Americans feel out of place in certain situations because they are not accustomed to the traditional Asian lifestyles. Living in America provides them with a more western experience and when placed in a more traditional setting, they become secluded because they do not know much about customs and manners. In this story, we want to show a journey of self-identity/growth. The nightlife scene is an experience that most teens/young adults in Vietnam enjoy. It provides the majority of their social life after school. Basically, we want to provide the audience with a mini look into a night in Vietnam.
